Where does RBC come from? The town of Riverside only boasts a population of 451, yet the census bureau tells us that there are some 7,000 residents living within a 5 mile radius of our church. Many move into our area planning for retirement on the river, while others come looking for job opportunities with the state. Whatever the reason, Riverside is a great place to live!Riverside Baptist Church was organized in 1902 and shared the Methodist Church by having services every other Sunday. The church continued this practice for thirty years until the first building was erected in 1937. To date the church has been pastored by 27 pastors, and its first full time pastor was Bro. E.D. Coleman who served the church from 1972 to 1995. During Bro. Coleman s leadership the church built the parsonage and the sanctuary building in 1975 and then the education building in 1979. In 1995 the church became debt free after paying off these mortgages. Pastor Newton came to be the church s pastor in May of 1996 by a unanimous vote of 108 members. In 1997 the church bought the surrounding property to increase its land size from 1.4 acres to now 7.25 acres. In 2000 the church added a new multi-purpose room to the education building as well as adding a covered walkway between the two buildings. This work included major renovations to the existing buildings to bring them up to date. The church has approved a long range master plan that has envisioned to someday include a new 400-500 seat auditorium where the old church building used to be as well as a Youth Education building, a Family Life Center, and open pavilion. All this on a beautifully landscaped campus. Along with the additional physical plant facilities, the church hopes to start a private Christian School, a Youth Center, a sports program and a wide variety of activities for our retired senior adult community.
